Hi. My name is Simon Hallam and I’m an inventor.

I wanted to understand how things work…

I disassembled my grandparents’ vacuum when I was eight (got in big trouble) and stripped more than a few toys down to their parts (got in trouble for that too) because I was driven to understand how these things did whatever they were supposed to do.

I’ve been experimenting and exploring my whole life, then I imagine, refine, and create new things to make the world a bit better.

Imagination, creativity, and a whole lot of prototyping drive new creations, and every invention is guided by three core values:

  1. it should be useful and delightful

  2. it must do no harm

  3. it should empower the user in some meaningful way

Hardware, software, and things in between

Over three decades in tech, I’ve worked in large and small teams, I’ve gone independent, worked with software and hardware, and things in between. Currently, I’m leading software development at Hadrian.co helping design the automated factories of the future to build rockets and help humans cross new horizons..

Everything I learned in these roles, working with some truly brilliant people, informs my inventions. When I’m not at work helping design the manufacturing of the future, I spend time working on the inventions listed on my Projects page (plus a few others I like to tinker on). I focus on creating useful devices to make life better in ways large and small.

Connecting with inventors, makers and users

The best thing I’ve learned over my years as an inventor and maker is none of us is in it alone. What I know and have made is the result of collaborating with and learning from a lot of truly awesome people, and I’m always looking to connect and engage with other makers to see how we can empower each other.

The reason behind everything I do is to work with and enable other creators - to collaboratively empower users and make life better.
